Near and Far is a collective of photographers, producers and designers. We think the creative industries can do more for the places they draw from than send a donation once in a while. We raise money by selling work people want to own. The profit goes to education in communities that are far from the people buying. Our first project is Photos for Loktak, a print sale supporting a floating school on Loktak Lake in Manipur, north-east India.

OUR MISSION

We don’t want the places we support to depend on goodwill. Charity runs out and trade lasts, so we build things that sell and give the profit to education. We work with one place at a time. We start from a real, costed need, pay through partners on the ground, and show where every payment goes. Only when one school is secure do we move on to the next. The name speaks for itself a two-way exchange between people near and far, so that each side learns from the other, and not only one side helps the other
